Development of Operational Optimization Software for Forest Fire Management

Duration: 2007-2008

Scientific Responsible: Vassilios Vescoukis, Assistant Professor NTUA

The Project Objectives

In this project, 5 software modules that solve combinatorial mathematical problems for prediction and optimization in forest fire management will be developed. These modules will not operate as stand-alone applications; instead XML interfaces for receiving input and producing output will be used as required. The modules that will be developed will perform the following functions: 1) Simulation of forest fire evolution, 2) Optimization of vehicle routing to fire fronts, 3) Optimization of positioning operational vehicles for optimum area coverage, 4) Risk assessment during area evacuation and 5) Optimization of area evacuation by general population during forest fire crisis.
