Strategic Guidelines for Vocational Training in Potential ‘in Decline’ Regions in Greece-I
Ministry of Labour/DGV

Duration: 1994-1995

Scientific Responsible: Prof. Maria Giaoutzi (E-mail: giaoutsi@central.ntua.gr)

The Project Objectives

This project aims at the determination of policy measures in respect to the issue of employment in several areas of the Greek territory, where severe employment problems exist. These areas are considered as declining regions and are the following: Syros, Lavrio, Patra, Thivs, Evia, Volos, Kozani, Chalkidiki and Xanthi. Emphasis has been placed upon the training of the labour force of these areas.

In this context, a specific methodological framework has been developed, via which the estimation of the specific needs in various disciplines can be accomplished. This framework is based on a combination of an Integrated Dynamic Model (STELLA) and a Decision Support System (DEFINITE). The outcome of this work is a set of concrete, immediately applicable policy measures related to specific training programs in the area of concern.
