Elias Kourliouros is Professor of Economic Geography and Spatial Planning at the Uni-versity of Aegean, Department of Geography. He holds: (a) a diploma in Architectural Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens, (b) a Ph.D. in Urban and Regional Planning from the National Technical University of Athens and (c) a Ph.D. in Geography from LSE.
Prof. Elias Kourliouros has participated in many Greek and international conferences and he has been involved in a number of research projects in the broader field of territorial development and planning in both Greek and European contexts. He has developed re-search collaborations/networks with many national and European organizations. His main research interests focus upon economic geography, regional development and planning (Greece, European Union); development and planning of production and innovation spaces (i.e. industrial parks, science/technology parks, etc); economic restructuring and integrated local development strategies and planning in less favoured, peripheral areas; declining inner-city industrial areas and urban regeneration policies; urban sprawl, envi-ronmental degradation and sustainable development policies in Europe. He has published 133 works in the form of books, research monographs and refereed articles in scientific journals, collective volumes and conference publications.
